Corey's Minion Cake

If you follow me on instagram you would have already seen this cake but I wanted to share a few more photos.  I must admit I was pretty stoked with how this turned out!  Corey loves the movie Despicable Me and will watch it every time it is on tv.  So when I came across this tutorial on pinterest I knew that I had to make it for him.  I have been looking forward to making it for months so I am really glad that it turned out well.

This was the funnest cake to make! While I love working with fondant and the results it gives I am a lot more confident when working with buttercream.  It can easily be used to give just as spectacular results as fondant.  If you would like some more buttercream cake ideas and inspiration I highly recommend this website.  There are a bunch of free tutorials that I love reading through.  They show how buttercream cakes can be just as amazing as fondant ones.

A Summer Kimono

It's no secret that I love a kimono style jacket! I own about 5 and only one of them I have made.  When I saw this gorgeous light summery cotton in Spotlight the other week I knew it was the perfect fabric for this tutorial.

I have had this tutorial saved in my pinterest for a while.  I am so glad that I finally got around to make it because I am in love with this jacket.  These are so quick and easy to make! I think I finished this in around an hour.  Depending on your fabric you could make your kimono super casual and summery or a little bit more dressy.  As long as your fabric is nice and drapey then you're good to go!

This is the second quick and easy project I decided to make to help my sewjo make a comeback.  I am happy to report that it is well and truly on it's way back in!  I have two more quick and easy projects that I cut out for myself and then it is onto something slightly more difficult.  Only just though!  Hopefully I will have those projects ready to share next week.

Scouting Out My Sewjo!

Hello out there.......can anybody hear me? I feel like I have been gone for so long.  My last sewing project was blogged over a month ago.  How did that happen?  Actually I know how that happened.  A month of 1st birthdays, hens parties, kitchen teas and weddings.  October has been manic but come November I was itching to start sewing again.

I decided I needed a few easy projects to get me back into it.  I don't know about you but I find that if I haven't been sewing for a while jumping into a long, detailed project makes my sewjo disappear for even longer.  So the first quick and easy project I decided to try out was the Scout Tee by Grainline Studio.  You can't swing a cat in the blogworld at the moment without hitting a scout tee.  I don't know if it is the fact it is a woven tee, has no darts or only takes an hour to make that has turned it into a crowd favourite.  Whatever it is I am firmly on board!

I used a japanese cotton lawn from Spotlight that has been in my stash for a while.  You may remember it from this little jumpsuit I made Imogen a while ago.  I only had about a metre but I managed to squeeze it out of there.  The bias binding had to be cut in two pieces but in the end it worked out.  I love this shirt so much that I have already sewn up a second version.  Stay tuned for that next week so long as the weather cooperates for some photos.  Now don't walk, run to your sewing room and start making your own scout tees.  They're the next big thing!

101 in 1001 Update

It's time for another 101 in 1001 update and boy am I behind!  I have been doing an update every 3 months so I can see where I am at and keep myself motivated.  Unfortunately, this past 3 months has been pretty hectic so I haven't been able to get much done.  To complete my list I should be doing 3 items a month.  So I should have 12 to show you in this update. Um, I have 6. Woops!  Here is what I did manage to complete...

60 - Wear high heels once a week for 3 months

82 - Have an awesome 1st birthday for Imogen

90 - Go to the strawberry farm and pick strawberries

100 - Go indoor rock climbing

69 - Take monthly photos of Imogen's first year

I am pretty happy with the things that I did complete.  The strawberry farm was by far my favourite! Imogen loved exploring the fields and picking strawberrys and we indulged in some strawberry ice-cream. I think we will definitely be going back again next year!  Hopefully over the next three months I can get a few more items crossed off and get myself back on track.  Fingers crossed!
