Okay ladies (and gents if there are any reading), I have a confession. When I took that blogging break I was sick but not from a bug but from a baby. Yep, that's right, my eggo is preggo. I am up the duff. Have a bun in the oven and all those other pregnancy euphemisms. It is pretty exciting stuff!!! We like to call him/her Squishy.
I was exactly 13 weeks yesterday and I was going to share the news yesterday but I thought April Fool's Day was probably not the best day to share. I am so glad to finally be able to tell everyone because there is so much I have been wanting to blog about but haven't been able to. Be warned, if you are on my pinterest it is about to go crazy with baby stuff!
Today we took a photo of my lame, barely there bump. Although, when I need to pee or I have just eaten my baby bump is huge...ha ha! I guess it is nothing though compared to what it is going to be in a few months time.
When you zoom in though it looks huge! Okay so I totally have no idea what I am getting myself into into so please if anyone has any advice for a nervous first time mother please do share. We were in the baby shop on Saturday and I asked the lady so many silly questions. It was so overwhelming! There are a million and one things in those baby shops and I don't know what I need and what I don't need. So confusing!
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! Congratulations! I have no idea, haven't ever popped a bub myself, but good luck! Xox
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Kat, what excellent news!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, congratulations, that is amazing news!! Unfortunately I don't have any advice, having never been a mother myself :P So when are you due? A spring baby?
ReplyDeleteAaaah I'm so excited for you!
The only advice I give out to parents is:
ReplyDeleteMove the crib away from the wall.
Squishy will suddenly discover a wonderful smearable substance in his/her own pants and it is hard to clean poo off of walls.
Everything else you dont have to worry about! You will be wonderful parents :)
congrats Kat!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS!!! This is totally totally awesomely wonderfully exciting news. Just brilliant. Strap yourself in for the ride of your life.
ReplyDeleteAdvice. Mmmm. I don't really like to give advice because so many people will and that in itself can get overwhelming. My father gave me good advice when I was younger, he said "be true to yourself" and I think that becomes really important when you become a mother. Try to turn the noise of advice off and listen to your own heart. You will know what is best for you and your family.
As for shopping for baby stuff... you won't use everything you get!
Again - congratulations!!! This is so wonderful.
SQUISHY! Haha Kat you sneaky thing you. CONGRATULATIONS! I'm sure motherhood is going to look great on you :)
ReplyDeleteAw, congratulations on your Squishy! My friend's called their baby their "spawn" the whole pregnancy...I could never get into that nickname! Squishy is super cute!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteOh Kat congratulations what fantastic news!!! I was wondering why you had been a tad quiet around here of late. That is so exciting, so is Squishy due around October? I have two friends due to have babies in the coming months, so I can provide crafty tips on baby things, but I have no real advice I am afraid! Congrats again, Sam xox
ReplyDeleteCongrats! You look adorable! I hope you keep blogging because I'm really excited to see your maternity style.
ReplyDeleteIt is a baby boom around here lately! So many bloggers are with child and half my friends have a bun in the oven, too. Congrats again!
Congratulations Kat and Corey! What beautiful, wonderful news. Squishy is SO cute!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! How wonderful and exciting! You look lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy first advice would be that you don't need most of the stuff they sell at baby shops! A cot, a change table, a sling/carrier, car seat and a pram. If you like, a baby bath, nappy bag and a bassinette. We brought most of our items second hand - eg. our cot was $33 on ebay, the beautiful bassinette was $40, or family brought them for us - like the Ikea change table. Friends will buy you heaps of clothes. I picked up heaps at the op-shop too. They grow out of the 0000 to 0 sizes so quickly that you find them looking brand new and not very expensive. This time around we just stocked up on nappies, wipes, breast pads and nappy cream. Other people will buy you toys, rattles etc too and you will end up with several of each. You can wait until after bubba is born to buy extra stuff like that or any major items you don't need right away can wait until you get the baby bonus.
My other advice would be to read, and not just 'what to expect when you are expecting'. :) You will feel so much more relaxed if you are informed.
Relax and enjoy your pregnancy. There's lots of us bloggers around if you have any more questions. As I was always told, the only silly question is the one you don't ask. :)
OMG!!!! CONGRATS KAT!!!!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥
ReplyDeleteThat is such amazing and exciting news!!!!!!!! I'm SO happy for you!! WOW!!!
I'm sure the shop lady is used to having a ton of questions being fired at her...and there is no such thing as a silly question...especially when it comes to babies and motherhood!
I know it's not for everyone, but it rang true for me and some of my friends, but if you are having a baby shower before you give birth like I did, I waited until after the shower to buy a lot of the baby things. That way you can assess what you have and what you need. Some people wait until after, that way friends and family will know the gender and can buy accordingly (and so they'll know what you already have and will therefore purchase things you'll need!). I really didn't start making baby lists until the halfway mark, but now is a good time to figure out a few key things and to keep an eye out for deals...like on a crib. Ask yourself if you're going to have the baby sleep in your bedroom for the first few weeks, cause then you might need a bassinet. Are you going to breastfeed? Maybe start have a look at breast pumps. Are you going to buy diapers or use cloth ones? Just to start you off. And remember, while newborn clothes are insanely adorable, don't buy a lot of it. We had so many newborn clothes, bought for us by family members, and my son only wore maybe half of it. He grew so fast in those first few weeks that he didn't get the chance to wear it all!
Congratulations times a thousand lady! That is so amazingly exciting.
ReplyDeleteP.S. - do you have any sewing projects for the little one?
Congratulations! I'm not too far ahead at almost 19 weeks (though with #3). Very exciting :) don't get talked into buying too much stuff - keep it simple would be my advice :) congrats!
ReplyDeleteEeek! Congratulations!! That is SO exciting :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see all the cute stuff I know you're gonna make!
Congratulations, Kat! You must be so excited. You'll be able to sew and knit lots of cute baby things.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! That's such exciting news! I'm so happy for you :) Shopping for a baby is so much fun, I'm sure you'll have everything you need (which isn't much) before baby comes home!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I'm so very excited for you. And I second what the other ladies have said - you DON'T need everything they have in the baby shops - a lot of that stuff plays on your new parent insecurities! Definately keep it simple. As a guide for clothing - my baby boy - now just 16 weeks, is in 00 clothing. He started out at 00000! If you have any questions or are trying to gather opinions about things - count me in - it's always nicer to receive advice when one asks first and I won't be offended if you decide not to take it! Well done to both you and Corey :) (Also, I have that dress too! PRETTY!)
ReplyDeleteWhat great news!! Congratulations to the two of you! You're gonna be a great mama!
ReplyDeleteExcited to hear all about it :) x
Wow, yay! Congrats girl! I'm so happy for you. I love that you're calling it Squishy- that will make a good nickname later on too :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! That is so so so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI remember shopping for baby stuff being REALLY overwhelming, and in the end, we had tons more than we needed, because you don't really need much. And so much depends on the individual (both the parents and the baby!). After 11 months, we're still sort of just figuring out what we need as we go along!
Congratulations! Such great news! Very excited for you both! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI am so late on this but AHHHHHHHHH!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Kat!! You're absolutely glowing!!
Oh, imagine all the baby things you can make!!
Aww congrats! Love that your referring to him/her as squishy reminds me of finding Nemo haha! It's cute!
ReplyDeleteP.s iv nominated you for an award!! :)
How on earth did I miss this! Although I was wondering about you being UTD after all the baby stuff popping up on Ravelry.
ReplyDeleteI have a few go to baby items that I have used over and over. Amolin nappy cream is great if Squishy ends up with nappy rash. An ERGO baby carrier is better than a toddler seat on a pram - and is easily converted between Mum and Dad or baby and toddler or any other combination you might think of! And I totally adore my Mountain Buggy pram which is still going strong after 3 kids and 6 years of almost constant use (including daytime sleeps for all the kids)!
Good luck with the baby gestating. I found that salt & vinegar chips were my friend when I was feeling a bit yucky and sparkly water was better than still!
