The Daily 11

Way back in January the lovely Sammy from Happy Family, Healthy Family tagged me in a little meme.  Then i subsequently dropped off the blogosphere and the meme was forgotten.  Finally I am here to post it so here goes....

The rules:
1. Post these rules.
2. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
3. Answer the questions set for you in their post.
4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
5. Go to their blog and tell them you've tagged them.
6. No stuff in the tagging section about you are tagged if you are reading this. You legitimately have to tag 11 people

Kat's 11 Random Facts:

1 - I have a wierd sense of smell.  Most of the time I seem to be able to smell things that no one else can but then there are times when everyone around me can smell something and I can't smell it.

2 - My first job was at Bakers Delight.

3 - Winter is my favourite season. Which doesn't work very well when you live on the Gold Coast.

4 - When I buy something new I tend to wear it a thousand times within the first few weeks then don't wear it again for ages.

5 - I am dying to be able to buy a puppy dog but Corey and I are both out of the house for the majority of the day so it would be by itself.  I want a British Bulldog.

6 - I've had asthma since I was born. Corey has it too so our kids are screwed.

7 - I like change! I get bored if things are the same for too long. That may be why I changed jobs so often when I was younger.

8 - I have worked at both KFC and Nando's.

9 - I am currently beating Corey in our footy tipping competition at work which is bringing me a great sense of satisfaction.

10 - I pick my footy tips based on the patterns that my selections make on the app on my iphone.

11 - I have had purple, brown, blonde, black and red hair.  I like change!

Questions From Sammy:

  1. Favourite vege out activity? Lying on the lounge watching a good movie under a big cosy blanket with a cup of tea and some biscuits. It works best in winter.
  2. Fav food? There are so many!!! Macaroni & Cheese is an all time favourite.
  3. Place you would most like to visit? Canada.
  4. Person you would most like to meet? My nana. She passed away before I was born and I would have loved to have met her.
  5. Worst job? My first job out of uni was probably the worst job I have ever had.  Not because of the work but because of the atmosphere there. It was such a negative atmosphere and I just dreaded going to work each day.
  6. Favourite group class? I used to go to the gym with my sister and we used to do Boxercise. It was always very entertaining! I think we spent more time laughing then working out though.
  7. Rich and lonely or poor and loved? Poor and loved.

Our Wedding - Details

***WARNING - LONG BLOG POST AHEAD***

I disappeared for a few days again but with good reason this time.  We went to Melbourne to visit my sister for her birthday.  It was a lovely weekend away and great to have all the family together for a holiday for the first time in ages.  Before I went I realised that I never posted the last lot of photos I wanted to share from our wedding so here they are.

For the wedding we made a few little things that I wanted to share with you all.  For the ceremony I made reserved signs so we could ensure that the first two rows were kept for family.  I also made some cones out of doilies to put the rose petals in.  These were handed out prior to the ceremony to all our guests.

For the reception I was lucky enough to have this gorgeous picture painted for me by my darling friend Maria.  I then printed our seating list onto pink paper and hung it across the painting like bunting.  My plans are to cut some nice bunting out of fabric to hang across it and hang it somewhere in the house.

We also made a few things for the tables.  The below shot shows a great overall shot of the room.  I really love the colours of the room and how they compliment the colours of the venue.

This picture shows the table numbers that we made a bit better.  The frames were $2 from ikea and I printed the table numbers onto paper from Sarbe.

The noodle boxes were placed at each setting for guests to fill from the lolly buffet.  I purchased the noodle boxes online from Pulp Creative Paper.  The ribbon came from Spotlight and the paper from Sarbe.

The place cards were one of the easiest things I made.  I did up a quick template in word and printed them at my mum's house.  The most time consuming part was cutting them out and scouring/folding them.

And lastly, I made my garter.  I wanted something fun that matched our colours and I had something else in mind for my something blue.  I whipped this up with some ribbon and elastic and a button from Spotlight.

Okey dokey.  Congratulations on making it this far.  We are nearly at the end I promise.  But lastly I want to share with you my something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

Something Old - my something old was this dolla which was on my mum's wedding car and my nana's wedding car.  My mum sent it away to the doll hospital in Sydney to be cleaned up so it could be on my wedding car.  It's still got a great old vintage charm to it and I am so glad I got to use it.  Hopefully one day I have a little girl who can have it on her wedding car too.

Something New - quite obviously the newest thing for the wedding was my amazing dress from Vivien of Holloway that I bought in London.

lane0051

Something Borrowed - I borrowed my mum's engagement ring for the day which was a great honour but also scared the shit out of me.  The moment I gave it back I let out a huge sigh of relief.  I was so paranoid I would lose it.

Something Blue - and for my something blue I decided to add some blue crystals to the bottom of my shoes.  I super glued them on some they would remind me of my wedding day forever. I tossed up between writing a K & C (Kat & Corey) and writing I Do but at the end of the day the K & C won out.

Yay!  You have managed to reach the end of the most epic blog post in the history of this blog.  Congratulations!!! And thanks for reading all the way down here.  I hope you all enjoyed the bits of our wedding that I have shared over the past few months.  It was such an amazing day I can't believe it is all over already. I wish we could go back and do it again!

Mary Poppins

Last weekend my mum and I went to Brisbane for the day to see Mary Poppins at the QPAC Theatre.  We left early to give us enough time to get there and lucky we did because the Labour Party were doing a Queensland Launch on the same day so traffic and parking was crazy.   Anyways, the show was absolutely the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my entire life.  It was the best day ever!!!  That night I got home and jumped on pinterest and did a bit of Mary Poppins searching.  Here are some of the fun things that I found...

This last picture makes me want to hang umbrellas all over the top of my outdoor area. The look so cool and would be a fun way to create a bit of shade.

A Little Bit of Sewing

Taylor's Circle Skirt

A couple of weeks ago my Aunty asked me to help her out by making a skirt for my cousin to wear in her dance concert in a few weeks.  It had to be a 50s style skirt so my mind instantly thought circle skirt. Perfect for dancing!  I had a look through my stash and found some great red & white cherry material to fit the theme perfectly.

Taylor's Circle Skirt

As this was for dancing I decided to make it elastic waisted to help with quick costume changes.  I simply measured Taylor's waist and hips and used her hip measurement to find the circumference of the inner circle.  I then gathered this circle into an elastic waistband.

This was a great little project that let me get a little bit of sewing done.  I'm still trying to find my motivation to sew something for myself or something a bit bigger but I think I might need a few more small projects first.  I might need to do some knitting and crochet first.

Our House

I took these photos a few weeks ago meaning to post them but then I fell into my non blogging slump. So I thought what better time then now to share them.  These are a few pictures of our new house. We have started decorating but I think there is still a little bit to do to make it feel like our house.  Hopefully in a few months or so I will be able to show you the house feeling a bit more us.  It might take a while to get to that point but we'll get there.  Anyway, enough of me, onto the pictures....

Our Lounge Room and a peek into our backyard. Notice the surround sound box next to the tv. We've been moved in for over a month and it is still sitting there. We're a bit slack!

Lounge Room

Our Kitchen. This is definitely my favourite room in the house. It is massive compared to our old kitchen so I am loving it.  I actually have half empty cupboards. That might be a good excuse to go shopping for some more kitchen stuff.

Our Kitchen

My favourite corner of the kitchen, the baking corner!

Baking Corner

The sewing room.  On the wall opposite this stuff is a double door cupboard that houses my fabric stash, my petticoats and a box of clothes that need to be altered or repaired.

The guest bedroom.  When we moved we bought a new bed for our room and moved our bed into the guest room.  The sheets, pillows, doona and doona cover set were all wedding presents from my Pop & Carolyn.  We only had to buy the throw blanket and the gray pillow.  The bedside table Corey made in highschool.

Guest Bedroom Guest Bedroom

The guest bathroom.  The bath in here is so deep its amazing. I haven't used it yet but it looks very inviting.

And lastly, our bedroom!  We bought a brand new bed from Fantastic Furniture when we moved in.  The quilt cover set came from Spotlight and the throw blanket and sheets came from Pillow Talk.  We still need to buy bedside tables and the wall above the bed is very empty so we need to do something there.  I'm just not sure what yet.

Our Bedroom Our Bedroom

And that is our new house.  We are pretty happy with the move. I am super close to work now and Corey has cut about 20 minutes each way of his commute.  The street we live in is super quiet and although we haven't actually met our neighbors yet we haven't had any issues with them either.  All we need to do now is finish making our house feel like a home.

February Reading List

Hello, is there anybody out there? It's me Kat. Yes I am still alive.  Things have been a bit hectic at home and with work and I haven't had any time for sewing, knitting, baking or any of the things I love to do really.  So without any creating happening in my life there hasn't really been anything to post about.  I'm trying my hardest to get back into things and have a little project I am working on for my cousin that I will be able to post by the end of the week.  In the meantime here is my reading list for February. I think it aptly reflects how little time I have had for anything lately.

Sad really isn't it. Burqalicious is a memoir young professional women who moves from London to Dubai in pursuit of a lavish lifestyle.  I really enjoyed this story because I think it exposed some of the myths that people have of Dubai.  At some points the story was a bit repetitive but it's real life so you can't really change that.

Gunn's Golden Rules was a fantastic book! I found that when I was reading this book I could totally hear Tim Gunn's voice in my head.  I love Tim Gunn and I really enjoyed this book which is basically just little bits of wisdom and advice for living a happy life.  I think everyone should read it!

Ok, so I know I said last time that I would post more often but this time I really hope I can.  I miss the blog world and I miss all my bloggy friends.  Hopefully there are still some of you here reading.
