Harry Potter Birthday

Last week my work friend Sally had a birthday and it was our turn to spoil her as she does for everyone else on their birthdays.  We were pretty pumped about it and me and two other girls spent a few weeks planning.  Sally is a massive Harry Potter fan so we chose that as our theme for the day.  Here are some pics....
Platform 9 3/4

The entry into our office was Platform 9 3/4.  We got the inspiration from here.  It was super simple to do and looked fantastic.  The party was last Tuesday and we still have this hanging on our door now!

The birthday banner in Gryffindor colours of course!

Balloons & Streamers

Her desk was then surrounded by streamers, balloons and golden snitches that we cut out of coloured paper.

Undesirable Poster

We made a heap of these posters here and printed them out to hang all around the office.  These have also stayed up since the party.  I of course had to do some baking so I made owl cupcakes, golden snitch oreo balls and the old favourite rice bubble slice.

Now this is my absolute favourite part of the day.  Let me just preface this by saying, in the interest of full disclosure, I DID NOT MAK E THIS CAKE!  This cake was made by one of the very very very talented girls that I work with.  We are trying to convince her to start and business and I am trying to convince her to give me cake decorating classes.  She is an absolute genius!!!!

Monster Book of Monsters Cake

In case you don't read Harry Potter the Monster Book of Monsters is a textbook that they are prescribed for one of their classes and it is alive and tries to eat everyone.  Michelle did an absolutely fantastic job recreating this book for Sally's cake.  It was freaking amazing!!!!  I can't wait to see what we can come up with for Sally's birthday next year.

The End of an Era

Last night we went and saw the last Harry Potter movie and it was awesome! I really enjoyed it although there were some little points I would pick on as not being explained properly but generally I thought it was great. It feels like the end of an era for me. I started reading Harry Potter in grade 8 and have loved it ever since. I have read all the books a few times and am currently rereading them again. So as a little homage to Harry Potter I decided to find all my favorite Harry Potter projects from around the net to share here....

And how could I not share this very unsettling photo. Voldemort smiling, Bellatix hugging Dumbledore. It's just so awkward!!!

Read More - April

Some of you may know about my read more challenge for the year but for those new folk here is the deal.  On of my new years resolutions was to read more books.  When I started uni I stopped reading anything that wasn't a text book.  I graduated in the middle of last year but still did not pick up a book until I made this resolution.  I made a little pact with my friend Maria that I would post my reading list each month and so would she to keep us both motivated on this goal.  So here are the books I read in April.

I tried to read this book once before and only got a quarter of the way through before i put it down.  I think it was mainly because it starts off quite slowly.  This time I forced myself to soldier on and I got through it.  The book was good but not great.  It starts off slow and never really builds.  The climax of the book is lacking and is a bit of a disappointment.  It was an okay read but no one I would read again.

Whatever She Wants is a book written by a male escort in London and outlines his story of how he became an escort and some of the troubles he encountered along the way.  This book is more about his life and his learning how to live rather than about sex.  The book kind of reads like a how to of being an escort.  He outlines the do's and don'ts of the business and the mistake he had to make to learn these things.  It really opens your eyes to the fact that there are so many different people in this world leading different lives that you can never really understand until you here about it from their perspective.

Okay, total confession time. I am a Harry Potter addict! I first read Harry Potter when I was in grade 8 and a friend of the family lent me the first two books.  One of my 101 in 1001 things was to reread the series and I figured since the last movie comes out this year I may as well try and read them before I see the last movie.  I read the first two and loved them just as much as the first time I read them.

Now make sure you jump over and check out Maria's blog Movie Mazzupial.  She shares some amazing interviews with actors, directors and the like as well as great movie reviews.
